  • Nasser Al-Khelaifi is the current favourite to become the next FIFA president, priced at 1/2
  • Victor Montagliani and Aleksander Ceferin share second favouritism at 6/4, with both potential contenders should a genuine challenge to Infantino emerge
  • Gianni Infantino is set to stand for a fourth term in March, but faces mounting pressure after several national associations withdrew their support

Infantino Faces Growing Pressure

It's been a turbulent few weeks for FIFA president Gianni Infantino.

Infantino had planned to sell stakes in FIFA competitions to private investors, a proposal that provoked significant backlash before being scrapped entirely.

As things stand, he's still set to stand for re-election in March, seeking a fourth and final term, but the fallout from recent weeks has clearly left its mark on how the market views his position.

A joint statement from UEFA, the AFC and CONCACAF on Monday morning has further escalated the situation, with the three confederations accusing Infantino of breaking trust "through deception" over his proposal to sell a stake in the World Cup.

Al-Khelaifi Emerges As Market Leader

Amid the uncertainty, Nasser Al-Khelaifi currently sits at the top of the next president betting, priced at 1/2.

The Qatari football executive and PSG chairman holds significant influence within the game's governing bodies, and his position as favourite reflects genuine speculation over whether he could position himself as a serious alternative should Infantino's situation continue to deteriorate.

Behind Al-Khelaifi, CONCACAF president Victor Montagliani and UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin share second favouritism, both priced at 6/4.

Montagliani has been directly named in reports as a potential candidate willing to stand, while Ceferin's position leading UEFA, one of the confederations most vocal in its criticism of Infantino, makes his inclusion in this market entirely understandable given the current climate.

The Rest Of The Field

Further down the market, Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, president of the Asian Football Confederation, is priced at 2/1, while FIFA general secretary Mattias Grafstrom rounds out the field at 4/1.

Both represent credible institutional figures who could theoretically emerge as compromise candidates should the situation around Infantino continue to escalate before the November deadline for challengers to enter the race.

Despite the mounting criticism, Infantino remains the incumbent and would still need to secure 106 votes from FIFA's 211 member associations to win outright.

What the expert says...
Infantino's still the incumbent with plenty of institutional support outside Europe, so writing him off completely still feels premature. That said, when UEFA, the AFC and CONCACAF are all issuing joint statements like that, something serious is clearly happening behind the scenes.
